Hawkeyes Come Up Short in Oklahoma

IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to No. 53 ranked Oklahoma, 4-0, in Sunday’s matchup at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Oklahoma clinched the doubles point to start the day, Lily Miyazaki and Simran Sethi of Oklahoma defeated Iowa’s Annette Dohanics and Zoe Douglas, 6-2, at the No. 1 doubles spot. Anastasia Reimchen and Kristen Thoms fell to Emma Devine and Mimi Fotopoulos of Oklahoma, 6-3. Natalie Looney and Aimee Tarun defeated Zita Embroks and Christiana Brigante, 6-2.

Anastasia Reimchen fell to Lily Miyazaki at the No. 1 singles position, 7-6, 6-0. Annette Dohanics and Aimee Tarun also came up short in singles matches against Oklahoma. Kristen Thoms, Zoe Douglas, and Natalie Looney’s matches were unfinished.

“We had opportunities in doubles again today and first sets in singles and didn’t capitalize, that was the match,” said UI head coach Katie Dougherty. “Oklahoma outplayed us on the big points and did a very good job competing.”

The Hawkeyes return to action this Friday at home against Northern Iowa, 2:30 p.m. (CT).
