IOWA CITY, Iowa — The 63rd ranked University of Iowa men’s tennis team split a doubleheader Friday inside the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The Hawkeyes picked up a nonconference win against Creighton, 7-0, but fell to No. 15 Illinois, 4-0.
The Hawkeyes clinched the doubles point quickly against Creighton (6-8) with wins on court one and two.
Senior Dominic Patrick and sophomore Josh Silverstein moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot and sophomore Jake Jacoby partnered with freshman Jonas Larsen for the first time this season at No. 2. The duos won, 6-2, and, 6-3, respectively.

On the singles side, every Hawkeye added to the win column with only one match ending in three sets. Larsen defeated Harrison Lang at No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(7).
Freshman Tony Leto played his first match of the spring season against the Blue Jays and won, 6-4, 7-5.
In the nightcap, the home squad matched-up against No. 15 Illinois (14-7, 4-1) for its first Big Ten match of the weekend.
This time it was Patrick who found a new partner in sophomore Lefteris Theodorou. The pair left their match unfinished when Illinois clinched the double point.
Theodorou and junior Robin Haden saw top ranked opponents Friday in No. 11 Jared Hiltzik and No. 57 Aron Hiltzik. Both Hawkeyes lost, 6-2, 6-2, and, 6-2, 6-4, respectively.
Iowa (10-11, 1-5) hosts No. 13 Northwestern (20-2, 6-0) at noon on Sunday at the HTRC. Admission is free to the public.
