IOWA CITY, Iowa — Five University of Iowa gymnasts were named National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-Americans for their efforts in the classroom this year.

Freshman Nicole Chow (human physiology), sophomore Megan Ruzicka (mathematics, actuary focus), redshirt senior Johanny Sotillo (sports business), freshman Lexy Wadsworth (biology), and freshman Tessa Walsh (computer science) maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to earn the prestigious academic honor.

Ruzicka was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar earlier this month for compiling a grade point average of 3.7 or higher this year.

Six Hawkeyes, including Ruzicka, Sotillo, senior Opua Calucag, senior Alie Glover, sophomore Lanie Snyder, and sophomore Nikki Youd, also earned 2016 Big Ten Winter Academic All-Conference recognition. The award is given to student-athletes who are in their second year at an institution and hold a 3.0 cumulative grade point average or better.
