OMAHA, Neb. — The University of Iowa softball team fell, 12-5, to Wichita State on Sunday afternoon in its final game of the Creighton Tournament at the CU Sports Complex. After sweeping its doubleheader on Saturday, Iowa finished the tournament 2-1.
Wichita State jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on a two-RBI single, but the Hawkeyes responded in the top of the second frame. McKenzie Schneider scored on a Wichita State error, leaving the Shockers with a 2-1 lead.
Iowa kept its momentum going in the top of the third inning and took a 5-2 advantage. A Mallory Kilian single through the left side scored Aralee Bogar. Taylor Libby then smacked a single up the middle, plating Sarah Kurtz and Kilian before Havyn Monteer shot a single through the right side to score Lea Thompson.
The Shockers regained the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs to go up 7-5. Wichita State added four runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth en route to an 12-5 win.
NOTABLES
- Libby had two hits and two RBIs, marking the second multi-hit game and the first multi-RBI game of her career.
- Thompson was 2-for-3. This is her second multi-hit game of the season.
- Libby, Kilian, and Thompson are on three-game hitting streaks.

The Hawkeyes open their home slate on Wednesday with a doubleheader against South Dakota State. First pitch of game one is slated for 2 p.m. (CT), with game two scheduled to begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one. Iowa then opens conference action with a three-game series against No. 19 Michigan on March 23-25.
