IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team defeated DePaul, 6-1, at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Hawkeyes improve to 6-0 on the season.
The team of Ashleigh Jacobs and Cloe Ruette captured the first doubles win of the day for the Hawkeyes with a 6-2 victory over Aspasia Avgeria and Maddie Yergler. Sam Mannix and Sophie Clark then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Keisha Clousing and Lenka Antonijevic.
Freshman Sophie Clark extended Iowa’s team lead to 2-0, opening singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lenka Antonijevic in the No. 4 position.
Freshman Michelle Bacalla followed Clark with the second win over Milica Tesic in a swift 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5.
Adorabol Heckleby completed the third victory 6-3, 6-2 over Maddie Yergler at No. 6 singles, clinching the win for Iowa. Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell followed with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4).
DePaul got on the board when Iowa freshman Sam Mannix dropped her match against Keisha Clousing 1-6, 7-5, 10-8, at the top singles spot.
Ashleigh Jacobs won the final match of the day 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Marija Jovicic, at No. 2.

“It was a good team effort. I thought it was pretty complete. From doubles and one through six singles we had good poise against a good opponent. They pushed us through all of our matches and we will continue to be competitive, gritty, and tough out there. If we continue with that as our focus it will be exciting to watch them play.”
