Buckeyes Take Game Two of the Series

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team (19-30, 5-17 Big Ten) fell to Ohio State (33-15 16-6 Big Ten), in five innings in game two of its three-game series, 10-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bob Pearl Field. The series is tied at one game apiece.

“They’re a great team. Every time we bring the ball up in the zone they wreak havoc on that. It was one or two pitches here or there for Doocy, she’s a strong pitcher and she’ll be back for us tomorrow.”

“We are striving for a great game tomorrow that will hopefully take us into the Big Ten tournament.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ohio State wasted no time scoring five runs in the first inning with runs on a fielder’s choice and a grand slam.

The Buckeyes continued their momentum scoring three in the second inning, off of a three-run home run.

Iowa threaten in the bottom of the second. Freshmen Abby Lien and Miranda Schulte both drew walks. Junior Lea Thompson advanced both runners on a bunt. Sophomore Ashley Hamilton got on base by a fielder’s choice, but Lien was caught at home and all runners were left on base.

Ohio State added insurance runs in the third inning with a two-run home run.

Sophomore Aralee Bogar notched a single to left field in the third inning, but no offense followed her hit.

Lien hit a single right up in middle in the fourth inning, but got out at second on a fielder’s choice, Thompson was safe at first, but she was left on.

Iowa couldn’t cut into the 10-0 deficit and the run rule was enforced after five innings.

IN THE CIRCLE

Junior Allison Doocy pitched the first inning for the Hawkeyes earning three strikeouts. Senior Erin Riding came into the circle in the second inning to finish out the game.

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes will conclude its series vs Ohio State in its final regular-season game of the 2019 season on Sunday, May 5, at 12 p.m. (CT) for Senior Day. Iowa’s seniors will be recognized after the game.
