No. 6 Iowa Dominates in B1G Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 6 University of Iowa field hockey defeated Indiana, 6-1, on Friday in Bloomington and improves to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten competition.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 6 University of Iowa field hockey defeated Indiana, 6-1, on Friday in Bloomington and improves to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten competition.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes came ready to compete on their second consecutive road weekend. This time they struck hard in Bloomington, taking a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
 
Sophomore Anthe Nijziel opened scoring for Iowa, netting a goal with assists from senior Katie Birch and junior Maddy Murphy in the eighth minute. Murphy and Birch weren’t content with just assists, both notching their own unassisted goals in the 19th and 25th minutes, respectively.
 
Coming out of halftime, the Hawkeyes continued their dominance. Murphy netted her second career hat trick, scoring Iowa’s next two goals in the 36th and 44th minutes. Junior Ellie Holley was credited with an assist on Murphy’s second goal.
 
Indiana came back late in the fourth, scoring its lone goal in the 50th minute. Sophomore Lokke Stribos closed out scoring for Iowa with its sixth goal of the day in the 53rd minute.

NOTABLES

  • Junior Maddy Murphy collected her second career hat trick and Iowa’s third of the season.
  • Iowa totaled 19 shots, seven of which came in the first period.
