SEATTLE — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team placed second in a tri-meet with Washington and Sacramento State on Friday night. The GymHawks tallied a final score of 195.300 inside the Edmundson Pavilion.
Iowa defeated Sacramento State (194.975), but fell to Washington (196.650).
Freshman Alex Greenwald led the Hawkeyes to a season-high score on vault with a 49.200. Greenwald took home her first career event title with a 9.900 on the event.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Beam
The GymHawks began the night on beam. Iowa scored a 48.625 on the first event with help from team-high scores of 9.850 from junior Clair Kaji and senior Nicole Chow. Senior Misty-Jade Carlson and freshman Allie Gilchrist added a 9.725 and 9.650, respectively.
Floor
Freshman Lauren Guerin continued to be Iowa’s most consistent on floor with her fifth consecutive 9.900 on the event. She tied for second on the event. Freshman Bridget Killian tied her career-high with a 9.825 and freshman Allie Gilchrist fell .25 off of her career-high of 9.850 set vs Illinois with a 9.825.
Vault
The GymHawks mixed up its vault routine with freshman Carina Tolan making her collegiate debut. She tallied a 9.800. Guerin set a new career high with a 9.850 and finished third overall, while Killian tied her career high for the third time this season with a 9.825 effort. However, it was Alex Greenwald who capped off the third rotation with a career-high 9.900 to take home the event title and best her previous high by .200.
Bars
Iowa closed the meet on bars with freshman Jax Kranitz and Kaji tallying a pair of 9.800s as the Hawkeyes finished with a 195.300 – Iowa’s fourth straight meet scoring above 195.000.
