IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team won its first Big Ten matchup of the season, 195.450-195.300, over Michigan State on Saturday night inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The GymHawks won three of four events against the Spartans.

VAULT
The GymHawks started the meet off strong with a season-high team score of 49.150. Lauren Guerin led the Hawkeyes and won the event with a score of 9.900. Sophomores Bridget Killian (9.825) and Alex Greenwald (9.750) tied and earned season-high scores. Freshman Dani Castillo (9.775), Ariana Agrapides (9.850) and Maddy Solomon (9.800) earned themselves career-high scores.
BARS
The GymHawks were led by sophomore Carina Tolan with a 9.775 and took third place in the event. Followed by a pair of 9.725’s from senior Clair Kaji and freshman Allyson Steffensmeier.
BEAM
The GymHawks were led by senior Clair Kaji with a season-high score of 9.850 sharing the title in the event.Castillo followed with a 9.825 earning herself a new career high score and placing second in the event.
FLOOR
The GymHawks entered the final rotation, trailing the Spartans for the first time. Iowa finished strong on floor with a team score of 48.750 to take the event and meet. Sophomore Alex Greenwald started the event off with a 9.600 and Lauren Guerin finished the event off with a 9.875, earning the event title and clinching an Iowa victory on the final routine.

The GymHawks travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, next Saturday to take on the Gophers at 6 p.m. (CT).
