Hawkeyes Grab 10 Career Bests at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana—The University of Iowa track and field team recorded 10 career best performances at the B1G Invite #2 on Friday.

The Hawkeyes dominated the men’s 400 meters, placing first, second, fourth and fifth. Wayne Lawrence, Jr. led the Hawkeyes in his first individual race of the outdoor season, winning the event with a time of 46.14. Jenoah Mckiver took home the silver medal with a time of 47.18. Nolan Kembel and Josh Andrews were next in fourth and fifth. Kembel and Andrews both recorded career bests with times of 47.69 and 48.39 respectively. Dejuan Frye and Evan Shuster finished 11th and 12th with times of 49.47 and 49.93.

Clare Pitcher recorded a career best in the women’s 400 meters finishing fourth with a time of 56.30. Aly Weum was close behind in fifth with a time of 56.41.

Nolan Roethler, the lone Hawkeye in the 400 hurdles, finished seventh with a career best 54.72.

In the men’s 200 meters, DeJuan Frye finished fifth with a time of 21.86. Nolan Kembel doubled back from the 400 meters with a 15th place finish and a career best 22.86.

In the women’s 1,500 meters, the Hawkeyes went four-for-four in career bests. Mallory King led the way in her 1,500 meter debut, finishing 18th with a career best 4:28.42. Bryce Gidel and Ellie Twedt finished 48th and 49th with career best times of 4:46.70 and 4:47.58. Lindsay Welker finished 51st with a career best 4:51.23.

Gabby Skopec and Abby Ryan finished 18th and 22nd in the 5,000 meters with times of 17:57.35 and 18:33.06 respectively.

Kelli Tosic and Wren Renquist made their 10,000 meter debuts and finished 11th and 14th. Tosic recorded a career best time of 36:00.48 while Renquist posted a career best time of 37:41.48.

UP NEXT

Iowa travels to Prairie View, Texas, and returns to Bloomington, Indiana, for a pair of events April 16-17.
