Hawkeyes Fall to No. 12 Cornhuskers

LINCOLN, Nebraska — The University of Iowa volleyball team fell to No. 12 Nebraska, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Courtney Buzzerio recorded 13 kills to lead the Hawkeyes. Jenna Splitt notched 16 assists, and Mari Hinkle was credited with a team-best 11 digs. Hannah Clayton recorded a match and season-high six blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1 (Nebraska, 25-17): Nebraska raced out to an 8-2 lead before the Hawkeyes took a timeout in an attempt to slow the Cornhuskers down. Nebraska was able to maintain a comfortable lead for the entirety of the set as the Hawkeyes were never able to cut the lead to less than six.

Set 2 (Nebraska, 26-24): The second set was back-and-forth featuring 11 ties. The Hawkeyes took a 9-7 advantage on an Amiya Jones kill. Nebraska would battle back to tie things at 15 apiece. The Huskers inched ahead taking a 22-19 lead. Iowa would fight back to even things, 23-23, on a Clayton solo block before the Huskers scored two straight to take the second set.

Set 3 (Nebraska, 25-21): The Hawkeyes pulled out to a 10-7 lead to open the third set. Nebraska answered back with a pair of 3-0 runs taking a 13-11 lead. Things remained close as the Hawkeyes trailed the Huskers, 21-20. A 3-0 run for Nebraska made things 24-20, and ultimately won the set by four.
