IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa volleyball lost, 3-0, to Michigan Saturday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Amiya Jones had the highest attack percentage for the Hawkeyes, hitting at .400. Maddie Slagle totaled a team-best 11 digs, while Addie VanderWeide led the squad with 11 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Michigan, 25-16): Scoring went point-for-point from the start, staying within two points of one another until Michigan began to pull ahead, 14-10. The Wolverines continued their momentum after a couple Iowa timeouts, building their advantage to 20-14. Long rallies kept the energy going between the teams. Michigan ultimately prevailed by nine.
SET 2 (Michigan, 25-18): Michigan led start-to-finish in set two. Michigan sprinted out to a 6-1 lead. Iowa quickly picked up its pace and brought the score back to a three. Michigan forced the Hawkeyes to take their first timeout at 16-11. On set point for the Wolverines, 24-16, Iowa challenged a line call, continuing the match. The Hawkeyes stayed hopeful, but ultimately could not close the point gap. VanderWeide recorded four kills in set two.
SET 3 (Michigan, 25-20): The teams went back-and-forth from the start. Set three saw seven ties and one lead change. The Hawkeyes forced a Michigan timeout with the score even 16-16. The visitors slowly pulled ahead, 21-17, making the Hawkeyes take their second time out. Iowa brought grit after the timeout, but Michigan remained in control and won the set by five. VanderWeide and Courtney Buzzerio each registered four kills in the third set.
