AMES, Iowa – The 19th-ranked University of Iowa women’s gymnastics capped a 196.825 at Hilton Coliseum on Friday night, defeating No. 26 Iowa State in an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series meet. Iowa took first place in four events, scoring the highest vault score since 2004 with 49.500.
Iowa’s 196.825 ties a season high and is tied for the fifth-best score in program history, tying the score set against Nebraska earlier this season. The Hawkeyes closed the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series score to 12-11 with only softball remaining in the 2021-22 series.
Bars
The Gymhawks began the event on the bars, with sophomore Adeline Kenlin landing a stick to score a 9.775 to take second place. Freshman Marissa Rojas competed in her first bars event of the season, tying with senior Carina Tolan for third place after both scoring a 9.750. Junior JerQuavia Henderson and senior Alex Greenwald both posted a 9.725, while junior Allyson Steffensmeier scored a 9.275 to assist in the teams overall score of 48.725.
Vault
Iowa posted the second-highest vault score in program history with a 49.500 with three gymnasts setting career-highs. Junior Linda Zivat made her debut after missing the last three meets to take the vault title, setting a career-high 9.925 to tie for ninth place in program history. Senior Bridget Killian posted a 9.900 for the second time in a row to tie for second place with her two teammates, senior Lauren Guerin, who set a new season-high, and Henderson. Sophomore Allyson Zuhlke posted a career-best 9.875, performing the “Zuhlke” and sophomore Kendall LaPlante set her own career-high 9.800 to give Iowa a .225 lead over Iowa State.
