IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Gold team defeated the Black team, 4-2, in the first game (seven innings) of the annual University of Iowa Baseball Black and Gold World Series.
Junior Cade Moss led the way for the Gold team with two RBIs on a double down the right field line. Sophomore Mitch Wood also tallied an RBI for the Gold team.
Junior Ty Langenberg got the start for the Gold team throwing 4.1 innings and striking out seven. Sophomore Chas Wheatley pitched 2/3 of an inning before redshirt junior Will Christophersen struck out four batters in two innings to finish the game.
Redshirt sophomore Raider Tello was 2-for-3 with an RBI and redshirt freshman Coy Sarsfield went 2-for-2 for the Black team. Redshirt sophomore Zach Voelker got the start for the Black team and threw 3.2 innings and struck out five.
The Hawkeyes will play game two of the series tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. (CT).
