NAPLES, Fl. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is in ninth place heading into the final round at the Calusa Cup. Iowa hosts an elite field at Calusa Pines Golf Club, a Golf Digest top-100 course.
The Hawkeyes shot 305 (+17) in the second round, improving five strokes as a team from round one.
Senior Mac McClear and sophomore Ian Meyer lead the way, tied for 29th at eight-over par (152) after 36 holes. The duo is one stroke back from top-25 standing at the event and six strokes back from the top-10.
Meyer shot a Hawkeye-best 74 (+2) in the second round to move 10 spots up the leaderboard, drilling a pair of birdies to finish one-under par (35) on the front nine.
Senior Ronan Kleu shot Iowa’s next lowest round of the day at 75 (+3). His par three stroke average ties for the best in the field after two rounds at 2.88 (-1).
No. 3 North Carolina tops the leaderboard heading into round three, shooting even-par (576) through two rounds. Tarheel Ryan Barnett leads the pack of individuals by four strokes at five-under par (139).
