REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – The University of Iowa rowing team competed in day two of the Pac-12 Invite on Sunday morning at the Redwood Shores Lagoon.

Iowa’s first varsity four boat beat SMU by a full three seconds. SMU won the other three races against the Hawkeyes.
The weather for Sunday’s competition was cloudy and 60 degrees with up to 15 mph challenging cross headwinds.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JEFF GARBUTT
“I want to thank Stanford and Cal for hosting us this weekend. Redwood Shore is an amazing venue to race and great experience for the athletes. It was a great weekend for our squad to learn how to race with some of the fastest crews in the country. Our results in the final 2 rounds of racing show how our team is improving with every row. In the 1V8 to be within a boat length of No. 7 Cal and No. 12 SMU shows the potential for our boat to compete at the highest level. Our 1v4 did the same and took a tight race and won against No. 12 SMU and had a close margin with No. 7 Cal. The program took another huge step forward this weekend as we make our final push towards the Big Ten Championship. Hopefully the voters in the CRCA poll take notice that the Hawkeyes are on the climb. Go Hawks!”
