Kennedy Named to AWN All-Rookie Team

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa wrestler Patrick Kennedy has been named to the Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie Team at 165 pounds, it was announced Tuesday by the publication.

Kennedy is one of three wrestlers honored in the weight class along with North Dakota State’s Michael Caliendo and Penn State’s Alex Facundo.

The Kasson-Mantorville, Minnesota, native was an NCAA qualifier in 2022-23, earning the No. 6 seed at the NCAA Championships. Kennedy was the Big Ten runner up and he finished his first season in the Hawkeye lineup with a 21-5 overall record.

During season, Kennedy posted 12 bonus point victories (six majors, three technical falls and three falls) and went 12-2 in dual competition. He was ranked as high as No. 7 during the season.

The Hawkeyes finished as the Big Ten and NCAA runner-up during the season. It marked the 14th time in the last 15 national tournaments that Iowa earned a team trophy.
