IOWA CITY, Iowa – Eight current and three incoming University of Iowa wrestlers head to Geneva, Ohio, for the U23 and U20 World Team Trials presented by Wrestlers in Business Network from June 2-4 at the Spire Institute.
The Hawkeyes will have seven wrestlers competing in the U20 division in Jace Rhodes (61 kg), Kale Petersen (61 kg), Ryder Block (65 kg), Joel Jesuroga (70 kg), Aiden Riggins (74 kg), Gabe Arnold (79 kg) and Bradley Hill (125 kg).
Four wrestlers — Cullan Schriever (61 kg), Caleb Rathjen (70 kg), Bretli Reyna (70 kg) and Sebastian Robles (74 kg) – will compete in the U23 division.
Arnold earned a direct berth into the best-of-three finals at the Junior World Team Trials by way of his U20 title at the U.S. Open Championships in May. Two wins in Ohio will earn Arnold a spot on the U.S. Junior men’s freestyle world team.
Action begins Saturday for the U20 and U23 at 8:30 a.m. (CT). U20 finals matches will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday. U23 quarters, semifinals, consolation, and medal matches will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The champion in each U20 (Juniors) and U23 weight classes will represent the United States at the 2023 UWW World Championships. The top eight place winners in the U20 division, who are age and grade eligible, qualify for the Junior and U16 National Championships later this summer.
The tournament will be streamed live on FloWrestling and live results will be available at arena.flowrestling.org.
