Hawkeyes Strike Down Golden Flashes

CORALVILLE, Iowa — University of Iowa volleyball fought until the very end to earn the win over Kent State, 3-2, at the Fryfest Invitational on Saturday night inside Xtream Arena.

Sophomore transfer Nataly Moravec posted a career-high 20 kills on the night, leading the Hawkeyes with a .459 clip. The upperclassmen trio of Caitlan Buettner, Anna Davis, and Delaney McSweeney registered double-figure kills, knocking down 16, 11, and 10, respectively. Freshman Gabby Deery posted a season-high eight kills and freshman Kaia Mateo forced two aces to mark her best on the season.

“Credit to Kent State and Coach Eckerman. They played extremely hard. We lost composure and paid the price, but we came back with great determination and intensity. Nataly (Moravec) went to another level and led the comeback, and Sydney (Dennis) helped dig us back to a fifth set win. We have many new faces, and we are learning a great deal set by set.”

Iowa Head Coach, Jim Barnes
