IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team defeated Illinois State, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon at Pearl Field in a 9-inning exhibition.
The Hawkeyes scored six runs on 10 hits. All of their runs were scored on RBI doubles from four different batters. Freshman Soo-Jin Berry opened the scoring in the third inning to make it 1-0, Iowa. Sophomores Skylinn Pogue and Avery Jackson each recorded an RBI in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Redshirt freshman Kelsey Winters went 2-for-2 on the day with two doubles and three RBIs.
Sophomore Jalen Adams got the start in the circle for the Hawkeyes. She went seven innings allowing no runs on five hits and struck out six Redbird hitters. Redshirt junior Maren Judisch entered in the eighth inning and struck out two. Freshman Mya Clark threw the ninth inning for the Hawkeyes and got one strikeout.
The Hawkeyes return to action on tomorrow, Sunday September 24 as they host Kirkwood Community College at Bob Pearl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and admission is free.
