• The Hawkeyes have won six of the last seven Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series matchups over Iowa State. Iowa has won the last five games in Ames dating back to 2013, including a 27-17 victory over the ninth-ranked Cyclones in 2021. The five wins have come by an average of 6.8 points and two of the victories have been by three points or less.
• Head coach Kirk Ferentz — the dean of coaches in college football — is one win shy of the 200-win milestone of his coaching career. Ferentz will be the 24th Division I coach to reach the 200-win mark. Former Hawkeye head coach Hayden Fry had 236 career victories.
• The Hawkeyes will play their first trophy game of the 2023 season on Saturday when the Cy-Hawk Trophy is on the line in Ames. The Hawkeyes are 24-8 in their last 32 rivalry trophy games against Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
• Iowa will be playing on a grass playing surface on Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium. The Hawkeyes have won their last five games on grass, including two wins last season – a 24-3 victory at Purdue and a 21-0 win over Kentucky in the 2022 Music City Bowl last season.

• Saturday’s game will mark the 70th meeting in the series. Iowa holds a 46-23 advantage in the series that began with a 16-8 ISU win in 1894. Iowa has won six of the last seven meetings.
• The Hawkeyes have won five straight and are 21-8 all-time in games played in Ames. Iowa won 27-17 in 2021 when the Cyclones were ranked No. 9 nationally.
• Head coach Kirk Ferentz is 13-10 all-time against Iowa State, including winning 10 of the last 14 meetings, dating back to the 2008 season.
• The teams did not meet between 1935-1976, or 2020. The teams played 43 straight seasons from 1977-2019 before the Big Ten announced in 2020 that it would not play nonconference games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Iowa held a 29-14 advantage in the series from 1977-2019.
