IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Gold team defeated the Black team, 8-1, in game two of the Black and Gold Series.
The Gold team kept the momentum from game one rolling and scored eight runs on 11 hits. They were able to plate five runs in the third inning on RBIs from four different hitters. Freshman Jena Young and junior Tatianna Roman recorded back-to-back RBI triples in the inning. Young went 2-for-4 for three RBIs in the afternoon. Freshman Soo-Jin Berry recorded two RBIs for the Gold team.
The Gold team used the combination of four different arms in the circle. Despite not giving up a hit in two innings of work, freshman Mya Clark surrendered one run in the first inning. The remaining three pitchers of Andrea Jaskowiak, Maren Judisch and Haley Downe allowed no runs on three hits and struck out three.
The Black team also used four arms in the circle. Junior Devyn Greer was the only pitcher to not surrender a run. She started the game and went two innings allowing one hit and struck out three. Freshman Jaylee Ojo also struck out three gold hitters in two innings of work.
The Black team scored their lone run in the opening frame as senior Grace Banes scored on the RBI groundout from Kelsey Winters. The team was able to reach base on 11 free passes but were unable to capitalize. Banes recorded three walks in the game.
Iowa returns to action next Thursday October 19 for the final game of the Black and Gold Series. First pitch at Bob Pearl Field is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT. Admission to the game is free.
