ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Iowa gymnastics team delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Big Ten Championships on Saturday, scoring a 196.775 to finish first in session II inside the Crisler Center. The GymHawks topped Illinois (196.500), Penn State (196.050), and Maryland (195.700) in session II. Iowa took fifth place overall.
Eight GymHawks matched or surpassed their season-best scores. Freshman Aurélie Tran led the charge, tying for second place on bars, finishing sixth in the all-around standings, and earned a spot on the All-Championship Team for bars. Tran also claimed the all-around title in session II with posting a career-best, 39.525. Senior Ilka Juk tied for sixth on beam overall after scoring season-high 9.925. Haley Tyson was named to the All-Championship Team on floor after posting a career best, 9.900. Iowa posted a season-high 49.275 on bars and turned in a balanced effort across all four events.
VAULT
Iowa opened the meet on vault with a 49.025. Junior Gianna Masella got the GymHawks started with a stuck landing and a 9.800. Sophomore Eva Volpe added a 9.725, while junior Avery Chambers contributed a 9.750. Tran followed with a 9.800, and junior Hanna Castillo posted a 9.825. Junior Karina Muñoz closed out the rotation with a 9.850, tying for second place in session two.
BARS
The GymHawks kept momentum rolling into the second rotation, recording a season-best 49.275 on bars. Juk tied her season best with a 9.825, followed by Kaia Vanney’s 9.675. Masella notched her second stick of the day, scoring a 9.750. Freshman Sydney Turner and Muñoz both posted 9.875s to tie for third-place on the event. Tran anchored the lineup with a career-best 9.950 to finish on top of the standings in the session. At the halfway point, Iowa stood in second place with a 98.300, slightly trailing Illinois.
BEAM
Iowa posted a 49.225 on beam, led by Juk’s season-best 9.925 to tie for first place in session two. Volpe continued her strong day with a season-high 9.825. Tyson added a solid 9.800, while Muñoz posted a 9.775. Tran recorded a career-best 9.900 to tie for third place. Fifth-year Adeline Kenlin closed out the rotation with a 9.500.
FLOOR
The GymHawks closed out the meet with a 49.250 on floor. Tyson led the way with a career-best 9.900, tying for first place. Tran and Castillo followed with matching 9.875s, both tying for third in session two. Volpe matched her season best with a 9.850, while Muñoz added a 9.025. Junior Emily Erb rounded out the lineup with a 9.750.

“I am super proud of the team. Going into this session, it was nice knowing we had already seen all four of the teams this season. It was neck and neck every rotation, so it was a great quad to be a part of just because the competition was so fierce. I am very proud of the team for staying level-headed from rotation to rotation. It was a total team effort; it took everyone to get that score and I am really happy for them."

The 2025 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championship teams, all-around competitors, and individual event specialists will be announced on Monday, March 24, 2025, prior to regional competition. NCAA Regionals will take place April 2-6.
