FINAL NOTES
• The Hawkeyes finished the 2024-25 season with a 17-16 overall record.
• Iowa finished 7-13 in Big Ten play, earning the final spot in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament.
• Senior Payton Sandfort earned honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition -- the third honor of his career. He was the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year as a sophomore and a third-team selection as a junior.
• Sandfort finished his career as the best free throw shooter in program history, finishing with an 89.6 free throw percentage. He finished second all-time in career 3-point field goals (271) and 11th in career scoring (1,619).
• Sandfort is one of two Hawkeyes all-time, along with Jeff Horner, to have scored 1,500+ points, grabbed 500+ rebounds and made 250+ 3-pointers.
• Sandfort matched a career-high, finishing with 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting with a career-high eight 3-point field goals in his final collegiate game against Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament. He was one of three Hawkeyes in the last 40 years, along with Luka Garza and Ed Horton, to score 30 points in his final collegiate game.
• His eight 3-pointers tied the Big Ten Tournament record shared by Iowa’s Keegan Murray and Indiana’s Devonte Green. The eight 3s were also tied for the fourth-most in a game in program history, trailing Jordan Bohannon (10 in 2022) and Chris Kingsbury (9, 2X, in 1994 and 1995).
• Sandfort finished his senior season with a team-high 14 20-point games (32 for his career).
• Iowa had a school-record nine student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten recognition. Two Hawkeyes -- Payton and Pryce Sandfort -- were CSC Academic All-District selections.
• Iowa finished the season ranked second in the Big Ten and 16th nationally in scoring, averaging 82.5 points per game. The Hawkeyes had the best field goal (.490) and third-best effective field goal percentage (.568) in the league. The team averaged 80+ points for the fifth consecutive season -- the longest stretch in program history.
• The Hawkeyes made at least eight 3-point field goals in 28 games, including 10+ in 16 contests -- the most in a season since 2020-21 (19). Iowa finished second in the Big Ten (31st nationally), averaging 9.8 per game. Iowa went 12-4 when making 10+ 3s.
• Iowa finished the season leading the Big Ten in assists (18.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.87). The Hawkeyes were second nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio and third in assists.
• Head coach Fran McCaffery was dismissed from the program on March 14, the day following the Hawkeyes’ season-ending loss in the Big Ten Tournament.
