IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa football players – graduate center Logan Jones and graduate return specialist Kaden Wetjen -- were honored Thursday as first-team All-Americans by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

Since 1945, the FWAA has been one of five outlets recognized by the NCAA to determine consensus All-Americans (Walter Camp, Associated Press, Sporting News, American Football Coaches of America). By virtue of Thursday’s announcement, Jones has cemented unanimous All-America status, while Wetjen is a consensus All-American. Iowa now has 35 consensus All-Americans in program history, including 19 in the Kirk Ferentz era and 14 over the last 12 seasons.

The Hawkeyes have had multiple consensus All-Americans eight times in program history, including each of the last three seasons (1981, 1984, 2002, 2003, 2017, 2023, 2024, 2025).

• The Hawkeyes have had a FWAA All-American (first or second team) 13 straight seasons, dating back to 2013, the second-longest active streak in the country (Alabama, 18). During that streak, a Hawkeye earned first-team honors 18 times and second-team laurels five times.
• Iowa has had 10 FWAA All-Americans the last four seasons combined, second only to Ohio State (11). All 10 of those Hawkeye All-Americans have been on the first team.
• The Hawkeyes have had a special teams All-American five of the last seven seasons.
• Iowa has had multiple FWAA All-Americans each of the last seven seasons (2019-25) and eight of the last nine.

Jones has received first team distinction from Walter Camp, AP, AFCA, The Sporting News and FWAA. He is the recipient of the 2025 Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s top collegiate center, and is a first-team All-Big Ten honoree. Jones anchors Iowa's offensive line, which is a Joe Moore Award finalist. He has started 50 career games and has served as a game captain all 12 games this season. The native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, is the top-rated center in the country by Pro Football Focus and has not been flagged for an offensive holding penalty in 2025. Jones’ protection, along with the rest of the line, has helped quarterback Mark Gronowski break school single-season records for rushing yards (491) and rushing touchdowns (15) by a quarterback.

Jones and the Hawkeyes have out-rushed their opponents nine times in 2025, compiling 245 yards in the victory over Penn State on Oct. 18 and rushing for 310 yards in the season-opening win over UAlbany. The unit helped Iowa gain more than 200 yards in five games and the line surrendered just 16 sacks. Jones was the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week on the weekend of Oct. 25 following Iowa’s 41-3 convincing victory over Minnesota.

Wetjen was previously honored as a first-team All-American by Walter Camp and The Sporting News and a second-team selection by the AFCA. Wetjen is the first two-time recipient of the Big Ten Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year Award. He also earned first-team all-conference accolades by both the coaches and media.

Wetjen, who is a Jet Award finalist, leads the nation with 965 combined kick return yards (by 260 yards), while also ranking first in punt return yards (28.3). The Williamsburg, Iowa, native was a three-time Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week in 2025. He is the only Big Ten player to record at least three punt returns and one kickoff return for a score in the same season. Wetjen returned a 100-yard kickoff for a touchdown at Rutgers, and had punt return scores of 95 yards (UMass), 62 yards (Michigan State) and 50 yards (Minnesota) this season. His 28.3 career punt return average is currently tops in Big Ten history and the three punt return scores are tied for third-most in a single season in league annals.

A Penn State defender is flat on his face after Kaden Wetjen made him miss a tackle on a punt return in Kinnick Stadium.

No. 23 Iowa will face No. 14 Vanderbilt in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. (CT), in Tampa, Florida. Fans can book travel packages to Tampa through Destinations Unlimited.
