CORALVILLE, Iowa — University of Iowa wrestler Jordan Williams finished the Soldier Salute on top Sunday night with a title at 157 pounds as 10 Hawkeyes finished in the top-eight.
Williams claimed the title with a win over Missouri’s Teague Travis. After a scoreless first period, Williams took control in the second with an escape and takedown to put the first points on the board.
He added another takedown in the third, and despite a quick escape from Travis, secured a 7-3 victory.
At 174, Gabe Arnold finished runner-up against No. 8 Danny Wask of Navy. Wask scored first with an escape in the second period, and Arnold answered with one in the third. Tied 1-1 heading into sudden victory, Wask earned a late takedown to win, 4-1.
In the third-place bouts, Iowa split results at 141 and 149. Kale Petersen defeated No. 31 Caedyn Ricciardi of Navy with a 4-2 decision to take bronze.
Following Petersen, Kael Voinovich battled but fell to Wyoming’s No. 30 Gabe Willochell, 11-7, finishing fourth.
The Hawkeyes went 2-2 in fifth-place matchups, with wins at 157 and 197. Victor Voinovich picked up a medical forfeit at 157 over No. 26 Jared Hill of Wyoming.
Harvey Ludington wrestling unattached edged Mikey Calcagno of North Carolina, 7-6, maintaining control late to secure the victory.
Iowa returns home for its Big Ten opener Friday, hosting Wisconsin at 7 p.m. CT.
