Notes: Wartburg

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team welcomes Wartburg to Duane Banks Field on Tuesday for a midweek matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. (CDT), and admission is $5.

The Hawkeyes enter the contest with a 5-2 record, while the Knights sit at 3-0 on the season.

As a team, Wartburg is hitting .316, and its pitching staff has a 2.52 ERA. The Knights are led by Keegan Schmitt with a .545 batting average. Schmitt leads the team with two doubles while Griffin Troha leads the team with five RBIs. Cael Funk leads the Wartburg pitching staff with a 1-0 record and 1.59 ERA. 

Iowa is hitting .360 overall with 80 runs scored. Gable Mitchell leads the Hawkeyes with a .519 batting average and two stolen bases. Kooper Schulte has scored 10 runs while batting .414. Joey Nerat is hitting .478 with 11 hits and four RBIs. 

The Hawkeye pitching staff has a 6.20 ERA after the firsts two weekends. RHP Logan Runde leads the group with a 2.57 ERA over 7.0 innings pitched and has a team‑high eight strikeouts. RHP Nick Terhaar follows with a 3.60 ERA and six strikeouts in five innings after earning his first career win over UW-Platteville.

The Hawkeyes will start RHP Brady Ferguson on the mound while the Knights give the ball to LHP Zach Byrne.
