IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa freshman Daisy Bowles has been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. It is her first career Big Ten honor.
Bowles shares the weekly award with UCLA’s Ashlee Sullivan.
The Las Vegas, Nevada, native earned the distinction following her performance on bars against No.19 Penn State. She captured her first event title with a career-high 9.950.
Bowles’ score tied for second in Iowa’s individual record book and helped the Hawkeyes set a new program record with a 49.450.
"I am super happy and proud that Daisy was named Freshman of the Week,” head coach Jen Llewellyn said. "She is very deserving of this honor because she works extremely hard and wants to be successful for this team. She competes exactly how she practices every day, and I am thrilled to see her earn her flowers with a score that reflects her true potential."
The award extends the GymHawks’ streak to six straight seasons with a Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection and makes Bowles the first Hawkeye to earn a weekly conference honor this season.
The nationally ranked Hawkeyes head to Los Angeles for the Big Four Meet against UCLA, Ohio State and Maryland. Action inside Pauley Pavilion begins at 9 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on FS1.
