The 18th-ranked University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team travels to Los Angeles for the Big Four Meet against No. 5 UCLA, No. 19 Ohio State and No. 25 Maryland.

THIS WEEK
The 18th-ranked University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team travels to Los Angeles for the Big Four Meet against No. 5 UCLA, No. 19 Ohio State and No. 25 Maryland. Action inside Pauley Pavilion begins at 9 p.m. (CT). 

FOLLOW LIVE

  • The meet will air on FS1 with Dean Linke (play-by-play) and Olivia Karas (analyst) on the call.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Iowa remained undefeated at home with a 197.075-196.525 victory against Penn State.
  • The Hawkeyes’ 197.075 tied the third highest team score in program history.
  • Iowa notched event wins on floor (49.475), bars (49.450) and vault (49.075).
  • The Gymhawks set a program high on bars with a 49.450. On floor, the Hawkeyes tied for sixth best score in program history with a 49.475. 
  • Senior JerQuavia Henderson (season best) and junior Alyse Karenbauer (career-high) shared floor title with a 9.925. 
  • Freshman Daisy Bowles secured the bars title with a career-high 9.950. Bowles’ score tied for second in Iowa’s individual record book and earned her Co-Freshman of the Week.
  • A personal best of 9.875, landed freshman Sophie Schriever her first event title on vault.
  • Sophomore Aurélie Tran earned the all-around title with a career-high 39.550. 

IN THE RANKINGS

  • Iowa enters the week as the 18th-ranked team in the nation with an NQS score of 196.429.
  • The Hawkeyes rank No. 11 on bars (49.217), No. 18 on vault (49.067), No. 20 on beam (49.029) and No. 23 on floor (49.150).
  • Aurélie Tran ranks ninth nationally in the all around (39.400) and 13th on bars (9.900). Tran ranks third on both in Big Ten rankings.
  • Sophie Schriever ranks 12th nationally and fifth in the Big Ten in the all-around (39.335). 

SCOUTING UCLA

  • UCLA enters the meet with a 10-2 overall record and 6-0 in Big Ten competition.
  • The Bruins rank No. 5 in the nation, based on their NQS score of 197.450. UCLA ranks No. 3 beam (49.429), No. 5 on bars (49.358) and vault (49.313) and No. 7 on floor (49.388).

 SCOUTING OHIO STATE

  • Ohio State enters the meet with a 3-4 overall record and 3-3 in Big Ten competition.
  • The Buckeyes rank No. 19 in the nation, based on their NQS score of 196.405. Ohio State ranks No. 10 on floor (49.350), No. 15 on vault (49.100) and No. 16 on beam (49.110). 

SCOUTING MARYLAND

  • Maryland enters the meet with a 7-3 overall record and 3-3 in Big Ten competition.
  • The Terrapins rank No. 25 in the nation based on their NQS score of 196.965. Maryland ranks No. 17 on vault (49.085) and No. 21 on floor (49.175).

REWRITING THE BOOKS

  • Iowa set a program team record with a 197.225 against Nebraska.
  • On bars, the Hawkeyes set a new program record with a bars 49.450 (vs. Penn State) and tied eighth-best in program history with a 49.325 (at Rutgers).
  • Aurélie Tran (2x) and Sophie Schriever tied for eighth all-time on uneven bars with 9.925.
  • Against Nebraska (Feb. 7) the Hawkeyes set a new attendance record, 4,100.

O’ CANADA!

  • The Hawkeyes have three Canadians on the roster for 2026, including three 2024 Olympians in sophomore Aurélie Tran, Cassie Lee, and Sydney Turner.
  • Tran leads the team with 11 event titles (4x bars, 3x all-around, 3x vault, 1x beam).
  • Following competing in the all-around every meet, Tran earned Iowa’s female Student-Athlete of the Month for January.
  • Turner has four event titles (3x beam and 1x floor) and was tabbed a Big Ten Gymnast to Watch.

SENSATIONAL SOPHIE

  • Sophie Schriever is the only freshman to compete in the all-around for the Hawkeyes, posting a career-high 39.475 (vs. Nebraska).
  • The newcomer has captured five titles (2x all-around, 1x on bars, 1x beam and 1x vault).
  • Schriever has set a new career-high in at least one event in every meet this season.

THE LLEWELLYN ERA

  • Jen Llewellyn is heading into her second season as head coach for the GymHawks after bringing success immediately to the program.
  • Following their first season assistant coaches Craig Ballard, Brenna Brooks and Kyle Grable were named Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association WCGA Assistant Coaches of the Year for the North Central Region.
  • Ballard spent the last 13 seasons on staff at Kent State University. Brooks was a student-athlete under Llewellyn at Washington and was an assistant coach in 2024. Grable was on staff at UCLA the past three seasons and was a successful club coach for 15 years prior to that.
