IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team picked up a Big Ten victory, and set a new team record over No. 30 Nebraska, 197.225-196.825 on Saturday evening in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. In addition to setting a new program record, the team broke the attendance record, 4,100.
The Hawkeyes took event wins in vault (49.175), bars (49.425) and floor (49.375). Senior Gianna Masella took the vault title posting a career-tying 9.900. Sophomore Aurélie Tran and freshman Sophie Schriever shared an individual title on bars posting 9.925. Schriever set a new career best while Tran tied her season best. Senior Emily Erb shared the vault title with a dominant 9.925.
The Hawkeyes claimed all podium positions in the all-around with Tran securing first place, scoring a season-high 39.500. Schiever and Turner followed right behind, scoring career-bests of 39.475 and 39.350, respectively.
VAULT
Iowa kicked off the meet with senior Avery Chambers and Masella tying career bests of 9.875 and 9.900, respectively. Tran, Schriever, and Turner rounded out the lineup with scores of 9.825, 9.800, and 9.775. Iowa earned a 49.175 to start the meet.
BARS
The Hawkeyes tied their program record with a 49.425 highlighted by Tran and Schiever’s 9.925. Iowa remained hot, with Henderson setting a new career best at 9.850. Freshman Daisy Bowles and Turner rounded out the lineup for the Hawkeyes with 9.875 and 9.850, respectively. Iowa continued their lead at the halfway mark, 98.600- 98.350.
BEAM
The momentum continued in the third rotation, where the GymHawks tied their season best, 49.250 on beam. Schriever and Tran tied for first at 9.900, a career-high for both. Freshman Maggie Ball posted a career best, 9.875. Turner added a 9.875, to keep the Hawkeyes in the lead, heading into the final rotation.
FLOOR
Iowa closed the meet on floor, tallying a seaon-high team score of 49.375. Erb led the way with a 9.925. Turner contributed a 9.900 to take third. Tran, Schriever, and Henderson stayed consistent posting 9.850 together.
