Hawkeyes Finish Competitive Day One at Big Ten Invitational

SACRAMENTO, CALIF.– The University of Iowa rowing team finished a competitive day one at the Big Ten Invitational on Lake Natoma in California. The Hawkeyes faced off against top competition throughout the day both from Big Ten and non-Big Ten opponents. The top finishes for the Hawkeyes came from the 1V8 and 2V8 who finished fourth, above Gonzaga, in the morning session. The 4V8 finished third above Indiana in their afternoon session of racing.

THE FIELD
The Big Ten Invitational draws top competition from Big Ten and Non-Big Ten teams. Out of the 19 teams, eight are ranked in the CRCA top 25. In attendance was: No. 1 Stanford, No. 5 Washington, No. 9 CAL, No. 12 Rutgers, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 17 Michigan, No. 20 UCLA, No. 23 Indiana, Gonzaga, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego, USC, Washington State and Wisconsin.

"I am really proud of the racing that our athletes did today. With the weather challenges back home and not being able to row outside a lot, they came down the course today with aggression and spirit. Having the whole team out here is great, because everyone is cheering and helping one another out. I am really proud of the 4V8 and 3V4 who raced for the first time this year. We are going to continue to focus on getting better and faster with each race. I thought our athletes did a good job executing the race plans and improving from the morning to afternoon sessions.”
