IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa fourth-year running back Kamari Moulton has been named a preseason candidate for the 2026 Doak Walker Award, it was announced Tuesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.

The award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top college running back, is named for SMU’s three-time All-American running back Doak Walker.

Moulton (5-foot-9, 211 pounds) led Iowa in rushing with 170 carries for 878 yards (5.2 yards per carry avg.) and five rushing touchdowns in 2026. His efforts garnered the native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades. He has been voted to serve on the team's Leadership Council last year and this season.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2026 Doak Walker Award will be announced on Dec. 10, 2026.

Former Hawkeye Shonn Greene won the award in 2008, Kaleb Johnson was a finalist in 2024, while Albert Young was a semifinalist in 2005.

Iowa opens the 2026 season on Sept. 5 hosting Northern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m. (CT).
