Multi-Goal Performances Lead No. 2 Hawkeyes Past No. 14 Louisville, 4-2

EVANSTON, Ill. — The second-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team remained undefeated with a 4-2 victory over No. 14 Louisville on Sunday at Lakeside Field, wrapping up play in the Midwest Challenge.

“Two hard fought top-20 wins for the Hawks this weekend,” said head coach Lisa Cellucci. “I am continually impressed with this team’s ability to problem solve together throughout the match. We are excited to get back to Iowa City and start preparing for Big Ten play.” 

Fréderique van Cleef opened the scoring at the 7:56 mark of the first quarter, netting her first goal of the match off an assist from Jordan Byers to give Iowa an early lead.

Louisville tied the game at 11:49 of the first quarter when Lauren Masters scored off an assist from Chloe Plumb.

Iowa regained the lead early in the second quarter when Dionne van Aalsum scored at the 17:08 mark off an assist from Amber Millard-Smith.

The Hawkeyes extended their advantage early in the third quarter when van Aalsum tallied her second goal of the match at the 32:02 mark off an assist from van Cleef.

Louisville answered just over two minutes later at 34:49 of the third quarter when Plumb scored off an assist from Tyler Everslage to cut Iowa's lead to 3-2.

Iowa added an insurance goal early in the fourth quarter when van Cleef scored her second goal of the match and 10th of the season at the 48:30 mark off an assist from Rachel Herbine.

Of Note
- Van Cleef and van Aalsum lead the team with 10 goals apiece this season.
- Goalkeeper Abby Johnson earned her sixth victory of the season.
- The Hawkeyes outshot Louisville, 14-5.
