No. 2 Hawkeyes Fall to Indiana, 3-1

The second-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team dropped its Big Ten opener Friday night, falling 3-1 to Indiana at Grant Field.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The second-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team dropped its Big Ten opener Friday night, falling 3-1 to Indiana at Grant Field.

Inés Garcia Prado opened the scoring for the Hoosiers early in the first quarter with an unassisted goal at the 2:56 mark. Indiana extended its lead in the third quarter when Celia Arroyo Cabezudo scored unassisted at 30:26. Molly Stutte made it 3-0 at 40:45 off an assist from Berta Saenz de Santa Maria.

The Hawkeyes broke through in the fourth quarter when Fréderique van Cleef scored her 11th goal of the season at 51:42 off an assist from Emily Edwards.

Iowa held an 8-6 advantage in shots. Indiana goalkeeper Sadie Canelli earned the win after making one save, while Hawkeye goalkeeper Abby Johnson was credited with the loss.

- Fréderique van Cleef has a team-leading 11 goals this season.
- Abby Johnson is 6-1 in goal this season.
