IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team wrapped up nonconference play with a 3-0 shutout victory over Missouri State on Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

With the win, Iowa improved to 5-1-1 on the season, while Missouri State fell to 2-4-1.

Iowa set the tone early, opening the scoring in the third minute when forward Reilly Heman found the back of the net against her former team off an assist from Sara Batchadji to give the Hawkeyes a quick 1-0 advantage.

The Hawkeyes added to their lead in the 27th minute when Berit Parten netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Elle Wildman. Iowa carried a 2-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting Missouri State 19-0 and earning 10 corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

Midfielder Kylie Cino extended the lead in the 66th minute, finishing a combination play from Lucia Englund and Parten to give the Hawkeyes a 3-0 advantage.

“I have to credit the whole group for implementing changes after Thursday’s match,” Iowa head coach Dean Ward said. “We had 27 shots and only three goals, so we’d want a bit more production and quality but I’m pleased to score three goals against a good team on a Sunday after a tough game.”

Iowa maintained control throughout the match, recording 62 percent of possession and spending 65 percent of that time in the attacking half. The Hawkeyes outshot the Bears 27-1 and held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks. Missouri State was limited to just one shot, with its lone attempt coming in the 72nd minute.
