IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team rallied late from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Wisconsin on Friday night at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
Third-year Kylie Cino scored twice in the closing minutes to help the Hawkeyes secure the tie.
“It’s a mixture of disappointment and pride in our second half.” Iowa head coach Dean Ward said. “Ultimately we didn’t make the Big Ten tournament but I said to the team that we can play with anybody, we’re capable of that but we just haven’t been able to put it together for a full 90 minutes.”
Wisconsin took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Anya Gulbrandsen scored an unassisted goal.
The Badgers carried the advantage into halftime. Iowa paced the first half in shots (5-3) and corner kicks (5-0).
The Badgers extended their lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute when Hailey Baumann finished a pass from Izy Traub.
Iowa responded in the closing minutes. The Hawkeyes drew a penalty in the box, allowing Cino to convert the penalty kick in the 86th minute to cut the deficit to one.
The Hawkeyes then earned another opportunity in the box, but Badger keeper Drew Stover saved the attempt. Iowa quickly recovered as Iba Oching set up Cino for her second goal of the match in the 89th minute, leveling the score at 2-2.
Iowa finished with an 18-6 advantage in shots, a 10-3 edge in shots on goal and 14 corner kicks to Wisconsin’s one. Goalkeeper Braelynn Galt recorded one save for the Hawkeyes, while Stover finished with eight saves for the Badgers.
