2009 — Indoor – placed 10th in shot put (55-6 1/4) at Big Ten Championships… won weight throw (53-1 3/4) and placed third in shot put (54-6 1/2) at Iowa Invite… placed third in weight throw (53-1) and shot put (51-8 1/4) at Iowa Open… Outdoor – placed ninth in hammer throw with collegiate-best 184-6 at Big Ten Championships… that throw ranks eighth in school history… placed 14th in shot put (53-5 1/2) at Big Ten meet… won hammer (179-9) and placed third in shot put (49-8 1/2) at Lee Calhoun Memorial… placed second in shot put (53-8 1/2) and third in hammer (179-2) at Illinois Invite… academic all-Big Ten… letterwinner.

2008 — Indoor – placed 15th in shot put (52-7 1/2) at Big Ten Championships… also competed in shot put and weight throw at Iowa Invite (53-0 1/4, 53-10 1/4), Iowa Open (53-11, 50-11) and UNI Open (54-9 1/4, 52-1 1/4)… Outdoor – led team in hammer throw (179-9)… won hammer with a season-best 179-9 and placed sixth in shot put (51-11 1/4) at Musco Twilight X… that hammer throw ranks 10th in school history… academic all-Big Ten… letterwinner.

2007 — Indoor – placed 14th in shot put (53-1 3/4) at Big Ten Championships… posted season-best weight throw (51-11 1/4) and collegiate-best shot put (54-9 1/2) at Iowa Invite… Outdoor – placed seventh in hammer throw (176-8) and shot put (54-4) at Musco Twilight IX… placed 13th in hammer (174-10) and 15th in shot put (52-3 3/4) at Big Ten Championships… letterwinner.

2006 — Indoor – runner-up in weight throw with a season-best 48-4 1/2 at Jack Johnson Classic… Outdoor – placed sixth in shot put (56-8 3/4) at Big Ten Championships… that mark was a collegiate best and qualified for NCAA regional… threw season-best hammer (173-9) at Messersmith Invite… won shot put (53-3 1/2) at Kip Janvrin Open… letterwinner.

2005 — Track – redshirted… placed 12th in hammer throw (167-7) at USATF Junior Nationals.

High School — two-time conference shot put champion… placed 18th in shot put at state meet senior year… team won three conference titles… set school records in indoor and outdoor shot put (55-11 1/2, 57-11)… second-team all-conference linebacker and fullback for football team senior year… National Honor Society member… track team captain as a junior and football team captain senior year… coaches were Brian Marrtz and Brad Wymer.

Personal — born February 14, 1986… son of Warren and Ann Schaapveld… attended same high school as Hawkeye teammates Nick Brayton and Bobby Windauer… pre-business major.
