JIM BARNES: HEAD COACH

THIRD SEASON AT IOWA.

Jim Barnes was selected as the 11th head coach in program history on December 28, 2021.

In his 27 years as a head coach, Barnes has amassed a career record of 473-390 (.560), and nine 20-plus win seasons. He has put together six top-20 recruiting classes and made four appearances in postseason tournaments, including a Sweet 16.

BRIAN YALE: ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH

THIRD SEASON AT IOWA.

Yale joined the Hawkeye coaching staff in December 2021 after previously serving in the same role and as recruiting coordinator for Barnes at Tulane University.

MAGGIE JOHNSON: ASSISTANT COACH

FIRST SEASON AT IOWA.

Maggie Johnson joined Iowa’s staff as an assistant coach on February 27, 2024.

Johnson comes to Iowa City after serving as head coach for four seasons at Jacksonville University. Prior to her role in Jacksonville, Johnson was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Ohio University. In her time at Ohio, Johnson brought in five nationally recognized recruiting classes. She coached several All-MAC Team honorees, including the 2019 Player of the Year, 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, 2017 Freshman of the Year, and the 2017 and 2019 Setters of the Year.

TAMIKA BREKKE: ASSISTANT COACH & DIRECTOR OF VIDEO ANALYTICS

FIRST SEASON AT IOWA.

Tamika Brekke was hired to the University of Iowa coaching staff on February 27, 2024.

Brekke will join the staff as the director of video analytics, in addition to her role as an assistant coach. Brekke comes to Iowa City from Kent State, where she had been an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2022-2024. In 2022, she helped the Golden Flashes post their best non-conference record (9-2) since 2008.

Prior to Kent State, Brekke served as a volunteer assistant at Kansas State and guided the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016.  A native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Brekke competed for North Carolina Central in 2015, before finishing her career at North Dakota. She helped the Fighting Hawks capture back-to-back Big Sky Tournament championships, which resulted in automatic NCAA Tournament qualification.

EMILY SPARKS: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

EIGHTH SEASON AT IOWA.

Emily Sparks joined the Hawkeye volleyball program on March 2, 2016. Sparks serves as the director of operations.

Sparks joined the staff after two years as a staff member in the Iowa Athletic Department. She served as a learning assistant for Academic Services, a sports operations coordinator, and spent time working with the event management team since June of 2014.
