CORAL GABLES, FL – The Iowa Women’s Tennis team completed day three of competition at the Hurricane Fall Invitational today in Coral Gables, Florida. Today was also the final day of action for the Hawkeyes until spring competition begins in January.
In doubles action, Meg Racette and Kayla Berry of Iowa were the only successful duo against Florida International. Racette and Berry defeated Egle Petrauskaite and Shilla D’Armas of FIU, 9-7. Falling in doubles play were Hillary Mintz and Krissy Dowlin, and Jacqueline Lee and Merel Beelen. Mintz and Dowlin fell to Bruna Discordia and Desanka Jovanovic of FIU, 8-5, while Lee and Beelen fell to Nikkita Fountain and Courtney Johnson of FIU, 8-4.
In singles competition today, Iowa won three matches and fell in three matches. Meg Racette defeated Taka Bertrand of Vanderbilt, 6-3, 7-5, and Milica Veselinovic defeated Caroline Ferrell of Vanderbilt, 6-1, 6-4. Hillary Mintz defeated Maggie Yahner of Vanderbilt in one set, 5-0 and then won the match due to Yahner’s retiring from competition.
Jacqueline Lee and Merel Beelen were defeated by Vanderbilt players in singles competition, while Kayla Berry fell to Courtney Johnson of FIU in singles play today.
