Hawkeyes fall to No. 1 Oklahoma State

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa wrestling team fell to 3-1 on the season with a 14-18 loss to top-ranked Oklahoma State on Saturday night. A crowd of 8,157 saw the Hawkeyes record wins in four matches, including two by major decision. The Cowboys are now 6-0.

The Hawkeyes jumped out to 7-0 lead on wins by sophomore Mark Perry (174) and senior Paul Bradley (184). Perry scored a 13-0 major decision over freshman Brandon Mason at 174 to open the dual. Bradley followed with a 2-1 decision over Rusty Blackmon at 184.

Oklahoma State got on the board with Jake Rosholt’s 10-6 win over freshman Dan Ereckson at 197. Sophomore Matt Fields fell to Cowboy senior Steve Mocco 1-2. Hawkeye junior Lucas Magnani fell to Coleman Scott 3-4 heading into intermission.

The Cowboys picked up two wins after the intermission, with Nathan Morgan’s 14-9 decision over freshman Daniel Dennis at 133 and Daniel Frishkorn’s 10-8 win over sophomore Alex Tsirtsis at 141. Hawkeye senior Ty Eustice gave Iowa a boost with a 4-2 decision over top-ranked Zach Esposito at 149, and senior Joe Johnston pulled Iowa closer with a 25-11 major decision at 157 over Kevin Ward. Cowboy junior Johny Hendricks won the last match of the night, 10-4 over Iowa junior Eric Luedke.

Iowa (3-1) will next travel to NWCA National Duals on the campus of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls on January 14-15.
