IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa wrestling team finished its regular season Friday night by defeating the Boise State Broncos 24-13 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes finish the season at 11-7 (4-4 Big Ten) while the Broncos drop to 8-5 (4-3 Pac-10).

The meet started at 141 pounds with the Hawkeyes’ Alex Tsirtsis winning by major decision over Jordan Brock, 11-2. On senior night, Ty Eustice won his final home match by decisioning Tyler Sherfey, 5-3. At 157, Joe Johnston got down 10-0 early, rallied for a 12-12 tie, but eventually fell 18-12 to Ben Cherrington.

The Hawkeyes won the next three matches at 165, 174 and 184. Eric Luedke defeated Lex Case by technical fall in 6:45 with a score of 18-1. Senior Mark Perry returned to the lineup with a pin in 1:01 over Johnny Nunez. He had missed the past four duals with a neck injury. Senior Paul Bradley then topped K.C. Walsh 5-2.

The Hawkeyes dropped three of the final four matches. Dan Erekson fell to Casey Phelps 7-3. At heavyweight, Michael Bucklin fell to Andy Patrick 12-3. Lucas Magnani defeated Cory Fish 7-3. In the final match of the evening, Daniel Dennis fell to Scott Jorgensen 12-7.

The Hawkeyes will return to action at the Big Ten Championships, March 3-4 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
