EAST LANSING, MI – Iowa competed in singles qualifying play and began doubles main draw action today at ITA Midwest Regionals. In singles action, Kayla Berry fell to Kylie Moore of Marquette, 6-3, 6-0, while Merel Beelen defeated Tanyhi Dudhela of Michigan, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, Iowa players won three matches. Mili Veselinovic and Beelen defeated Moore/Flankova of Detroit, 8-1, and fell to Koprivica/Schellhas of Minnesota, 8-5. Hillary Mintz and Kelcie Klockenga won both of their matches, first defeating McGaffigan/Williams of Indiana, 8-5, and then defeating DiPastina/Keesey of Ohio State, 8-6.
Iowa’s duo of Jacqueline Lee and Kayla Berry did not compete as strongly today and dropped in both of their matches. The duo first fell to Migan/Schickerling of Indiana State, 9-8 (7-4), and then was defeated in the consolation round by Shafner/Mahtani of Michigan, 8-5.
Iowa players will continue competition tomorrow, playing the remainder of their s ingles qualifying matches, and continuing with doubles main draw action. In addition, singles main draw competition will begin tomorrow.
