Austin, TX-

The University of Iowa women’s rowing team took four out of nine races Saturday at the Longhorn Invitational. Both novice and varsity boats competed in day two of competition.

Iowa competed in four races against Central Florida in the morning session. The Hawkeyes ended the first session very strong, placing first over a strong Central Florida crew in the V8+ race with a time of 6:41.0.

“We had a race plan, and they executed it beyond my expectations,” said Hawkeye Head Coach Mandi Kowal. “I’m really happy for our athletes, they have worked hard this year and they really earned their wins today.”

The Hawkeyes stayed focused for the afternoon session, posting three first place finishes. Iowa beat out Duke in the V4+ and the V8+, and Kansas State in the 2N8+.

“We are turning things around and improving, today was a great example of that,” said Coach Kowal. “I was please to see improvements from race to race with each crew. That bodes well for the future.”

Iowa boats return to the water Sunday for the final day of competition in the 2008 Longhorn Invitational.
