IOWA CITY–The Iowa baseball team concluded its fall season with an 8-6 loss tonight against Nebraska at Duane Banks field in a scheduled 10-inning exhibition contest.

Senior Justin Toole led the Hawkeye offense going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Senior T.J. Cataldo had two sacrifices to drive in both Iowa’s runs. Junior transfer Ryan Durant went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

The Huskers scored three runs in the third to take a 3-0 advantage. The inning featured a Cody Neer solo homerun. Nebraska never looked back, plating one more run in the sixth and four in the tenth to win 8-2.

Iowa got on the board in the seventh to make it 4-1. Toole led the inning off with a single and one out later, junior Tyson Blaser drew a walk. Cataldo came up big with a sacrifice bunt to score Toole.

The Hawkeyes added another run in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 4-2. With one out, Toole got his second base hit. Senior Wes Freie then drew a walk and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Blaser drew the second walk of the inning to load the bases. Cataldo hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Toole.

Nebraska scored four runs on four hits in the top of the tenth inning.

Iowa rallied for four runs on one hit in the bottom of the tenth. The Black and Gold loaded the bases with one out and scored two runs on consecutive wild pitches. Later in the tinning, sophomore Trevor Willis scored on a Freie RBI-groundout and Durant plated Toole with an RBI single to right field. Freshman Chett Ziese struck out with two runners in scoring position to end the game. The inning featured three walks and two hit-by-pitches.
