IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa track and field team won eight titles at the Hawkeye Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the UI Rec Building. Iowa won seven individual and one relay title in its first meet of 2020. The Hawkeyes set 32 personal bests over the two-day competitions.
Junior Antonise Christian placed first in the women’s 60-meter dash in 7.49 seconds, just .01 seconds away from tying her career best set at the Jimmy Grant Invitational on Dec.14. Senior Jenny Kimbro set two new personal bests, throwing 11.54 meters in shot put and winning the 200 meters in 24.50.
“I’m happy with the time, but not satisfied,” said Christian. “I don’t think the final was technically sound, but my time was consistent so that’s good. Getting a win like this is a good confidence builder. It helps me figure out some things that I have to work on in practice.”
Nathan Mylenek opened his senior indoor season with a first place win in the men’s 800 meters (1:55.04). The men’s 4×400 relay helped the Hawkeyes finish on top, placing first in 3:12.19. Austin West, Antonio Woodard, Chris Thompson and DeJuan Frye put together a time that ranks eighth in the nation.
“Today was just come out and run as even of a race as possible,” said Mylenek. “Had a workout this morning, so I was already pretty drained. Today was just trying to run as even as possible. They got a little hot, and I stayed back. I didn’t finish as hard as I wanted to, but a win is a win.”

“It’s fun to see Antonise come back and have another big day in the 60 meters. Jenny Kimbro, who rarely runs the 60, ran a good time today and came back and almost ran her outdoor PR in the 200, so that was pretty fun to see on the women’s side.
“We had another great competition yesterday in the weight throw. Amanda Howe went out and got another win. She’s had a tremendous season up to this point. I’m looking forward to seeing her rise throughout the season.”
“On the men’s side, I was really impressed with Jamal Britt. It was his first meet wearing the uniform. He ran a 7.84 which is No. 2 in the Big Ten right now and one of the top times in the country. It was great to see those guys in the 60-meter dash get out and compete at a high level.”
