IOWA CITY, IOWA — The 13th-ranked University of Iowa women’s rowing team will travel to Norfolk, Virginia, to take part in a series of duals against ODU this weekend. The Hawkeyes will compete Friday, Saturday, and Sunday against the Monarchs on the Lafayette River.

SOLO TRAVELING
Iowa will be represented by the Hawkeye’s II Varsity Eight this week, providing valuable racing experience for the young lineup.  The crew includes just two returners from the 2019 campaign in sophomores Molly Rygh and Riley Seufert and it is expected that the Old Dominion Varsity squad will provide an important early-season test.  Rygh and Seufert will be joined by Carly Madson, Kasi McWhorter, Kirsten Jurgersen, Izzy Bowman, Nathalia Wellenreiter, Amelia Juhl and Katie Becker (cox)

HEARING FROM KATIE BECKER
I’m excited for this weekend, it’s an opportunity that we weren’t really expecting to have, so we’re thankful the coaches could set it up for us. I’m excited for some of the newer and younger individuals within the crew to get some extra strokes in on new water against a different team. As for the rest of the season, I’m looking forward to working with a 2V that’s set to fight for Iowa everyday.”

ROSTER BREAKDOWN
This travel roster is composed of nine athletes, eight of whom were identified and recruited through Iowa Rowing’s Talent Transfer program, including seven from the State of Iowa.

RANKINGS
The Iowa Hawkeyes have been ranked for 30 consecutive weeks, which is the longest streak in school History.

UP NEXT
Iowa will head to Waco, Texas for spring break training before their season opener at the Pac-12 Invitational on March 28-29 in Redwood Shores, Calif.
