QUOTING DIRECTOR OF TRACK AND FIELD JOEY WOODY

“It was an up and down day here at the Husker Invite. I thought Jamal competed well in the 400 hurdles for a runner up finish and his second best time of his career. I was very happy to see Austin Lietz put a great race together and finish very strong in the 400 hurdles. He’s got a lot more in the tank. The 100 and 110 hurdles were a mixed bag. I thought we should’ve had some better performances overall, but it was good to have multiple athletes make the 100 meter hurdles and 110 meter hurdles final in tough conditions racing into a headwind and rain that started right before the event got started.

I was happy with how James Carter and Jordan Johnson competed in their events in tough conditions. I thought Amanda Howe had a terrific day and as the top collegian finish in a great field. She’s been very consistent all season and that’s very important when you are going to head to head against some competitors that you will be facing at the Big Ten Championships in May.

We had a great first day of the heptathlon and the decathlon with all five athletes off to a great start. They have all set themselves up for a great day two. We had some big PR performances from the guys, especially with Austin in the 400 to finish the day. I thought they all competed great. It’s a lot of fun when you have multiple athletes competing in the multi-events and I think that helps keep the energy positive through the two-day event. I’m very happy with where Jenny and Dallyssa are at going into day two. I am looking forward to seeing how our team responds tomorrow and seeing if we can get the energy going and compete to win.”
