CHERRY HILL, NJ – The University of Iowa rowing team commenced its 2023 championship season on Saturday at the Big Ten-Ivy League Dust-Up on Cooper River.
The morning session consisted of 1V8, 2V8, Novice 8, 1V4, and 2V4 races against Yale and Big Ten opponent Ohio State. Race conditions were stated as a 5-15 mph headwind.
Iowa’s top placements of the morning came both the 1V4 and 2V4 boats, both placing second in their respective events. The Hawkeyes’ 1V4 notched past Ohio State by just .3 seconds to claim its runner-up spot, while the 2V4 also beat out the Buckeyes – this time by just over 5 seconds.
Both the 1V8 and 2V8 came up third. Iowa’s Novice 8 boat placed a respective fourth behind two of Yale’s varsity boats and Ohio State.
The Hawkeyes battled Syracuse this afternoon, placing second in each event of the session.
