Game Preview: at Wisconsin

• The Hawkeyes are playing their second trophy game of the 2023 season when the Heartland Trophy is on the line on Saturday in Madison. Iowa is 25-8 in its last 33 rivalry trophy games against Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
• Both Iowa and Wisconsin are receiving votes in the Associated Press and AFCA Coaches’ Polls.
• Head coach Kirk Ferentz moved into third place on the all-time Big Ten wins list. Ferentz has 117 career Big Ten victories, only trailing Ohio State’s Woody Hayes (153) and Michigan’s Bo Schembechler (143). He won his 200th career game on Sept. 9 at Iowa State, becoming the 27th coach to reach the milestone at an FBS institution and just the 99th college coach across all divisions since 1890.
• QB Deacon Hill will return to Wisconsin, where he appeared in one game in two seasons in Madison. Hill has thrown a touchdown pass (to TE Erick All) in consecutive games. He is 21-of-56 for 274 yards and two touchdowns in 2023.
• RB Kaleb Johnson returned from injury to record his first 100-yard game of the season, rushing for 134 yards on 17 attempts against Purdue. He had a 67-yard touchdown run – the second-longest rush of his career. The performance pushed Johnson over 1,000 career rushing yards (1,004); he is the 51st player in program history to reach the milestone.
• Iowa rushed for 181 yards against the Boilermakers, the second-most by the Hawkeyes this season and most against a Big Ten opponent since rushing for 184 yards last season in West Lafayette.
• TE Erick All has a team-high nine receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns in Iowa’s last two games. All is Iowa’s leading receiver with 19 catches for 280 yards and three touchdowns. The three TDs are a career high.

SERIES HISTORY

• Saturday will be the 97th meeting between Iowa and Wisconsin in a series that began in 1894. Through 96 games, Wisconsin leads 49-45-2.
• Iowa is 19-29-1 all-time in games played in Madison.
• The Hawkeyes have won two of the last three meetings against Wisconsin, winning 28-7 in 2020 and 24-10 in 2022. Both games were played in Iowa City.
• Iowa’s last victory in Madison came in 2015 – winning, 10-6.
