With kickoff at Kinnick Stadium quickly approaching, here are changes in and around the stadium to take note of as you make your plans to join us:
Event Operations
- Security Enhancements/All Entrance Gates: Beginning this season, all gates into Kinnick Stadium will be equipped with the latest technology in walk-through metal detectors that guests will need to pass through for entry. Fans will not need to empty their pockets or belongings unless instructed by stadium security. The clear bag policy remains in effect.
- Best Crowd Management: UI Athletics recently announced a new partnership with Best Crowd Management. BEST will provide event services at Kinnick Stadium and other UI Athletics facilities. BEST is prepared to assist with customer service, ticket scanning, ushering services and various security roles that contribute to critical crowd management functions.
- Sensory Accessibility and Inclusion: As UI Athletics seeks to have Kinnick Stadium certified as Sensory Inclusive by KultureCity, many event staff are undergoing sensory inclusion training. Sensory Bags will be available on a checkout basis at new Guest Services locations located on the concourses at each of the four corners of Kinnick Stadium. The packs provide individuals in need with gadgets and sensory experiences to help them regulate their sensory experiences and improve their overall sense of well-being.
Traffic/Construction
- First Ave: Construction is nearing completion at I-80 (exit 242) and 1st Avenue. All lanes over the bridge are expected to be open by the end of the month.
- Newton Rd: Construction of a new roundabout and road connecting Newton Road to the University of Iowa Health Care university campus is underway. Although this project will have minimal effect on traffic before and after games, sidewalks along Newton Road are closed and pedestrian access will be rerouted around the construction area.
Parking
- Lot 52/Hawkeye Ramp: Construction of the Hawkeye Ramp located north of Kinnick Stadium continues with anticipated completion for the 2025 football season. For football games in 2024, Lot 52 (previously known as Lot 43N) will continue to provide limited parking for RVs (reserved) and ADA on gameday.
- Lot 40: All passenger vehicles, which previously parked in Lot 52, have been relocated to Lot 40.
- Lot 73 (University Club Lot): Lot 73 has been expanded to accommodate RVs, many of which previously parked in Lot 40. Approximately 60 RVs will be placed in this lot.
- Lot 65 (Finkbine Commuter Lot): Lot 65 will only be available for passenger vehicles on football gameday.
- Myrtle Lot: Myrtle lot has been expanded to accommodate fans displaced due to construction in Lot 14. The Myrtle Lot is no longer a public lot, and a permit will be required for entry on gameday.
